[Everyone makes progress at his own pace]

The Second PYP Science and Technology Festival

On October 22nd and 23rd, there was a science fair at our school. It was great. There were 36 different stations, and each one had a different topic. Many people tried station one. At this station, we had to try and build a bridge using chopsticks and rubber bands. The bridge had to be built in two minutes and it must be able to hold 20 books. At the second station, we had to build different pictures using shapes and name the created shape. If the judge thought the name was fitting, we passed the test. We had 30 seconds. Another popular station was the paper plane folding station. The target was to fold a kind of plane and try to hit a bullseye target. The boys enjoyed this station. There were lots of other popular stations. They included one where you can use a microscope to look at the tissues of plants. First, we had to learn about the different parts of a microscope, then we had to answer 3 questions. If we answered correctly, we got candy. Many kids were waiting to have a look and get a treat. Another good example was the ‘egg protecting’ station. It was clearly very popular, because they ran out of eggs in a short amount of time. There were other stations that were very creative, but less popular. The VCR station was an example. There were lots of virtual reality glasses, but there weren’t as much people as at the microscope station. Lots of robots were put on a table near the VCR station that was another example of a creative station. While the students from Grade 4,5 and 6 were doing these activities, the students in the lower grades were watching movies about science on October 22nd. On October 23rd, students from Grade1 to Grade 3 attended the science fair while the kids from the higher grades watched the videos.
